Corporates have changed over the years. Today, to keep abreast and ahead of competition, companies have realized that their most valuable asset is their people. Keeping this in mind, they are providing opportunities to employees to upskill and become more relevant.
Having said this, it is absolutely necessary to demonstrate that they can add value to the company and take steps to become more productive in their roles. The competition has become so intense that upskilling and being a useful part of the company’s operations are the key factors to stay afloat. Let us see what steps we can take to increase our productivity.
Never panic when work overwhelms you
An extremely important thing to remember is that panicking in any situation will not get you anywhere. It is better to do things step by step and systematically. Panic will only increase your stress levels and drastically reduce your productivity
Plan your work well
By making a suitable time table for your work you can space it out within the time available. This way, you will know how many hours you will have to put in each day. Be sure that you provide for the following:
Ø Delays for whatever reason
Ø Unexpected work that may be “urgent,” demanding your attention
Without planning you will be adding to the chaos
When you make your to do list for the day (if you don’t do it, please start immediately) don’t overcrowd it. Being too ambitious in planning can be counterproductive.
Prioritise your tasks for the day. It is always better to complete the difficult tasks first. Or, better, one should follow the 80/20 principle. This principle says that about 20% of what we do produces 80% of the results. If we follow this, we will push the unimportant tasks to the end of the period, whether it is a day or a work week.
Mornings are more productive
This is a fact, because we are relatively fresher compared to the afternoons and evenings. If it is possible, schedule your meetings and interactions with others for the afternoon and do the work that requires you to apply your mind without disturbance, in the mornings. As far as possible, your mornings should be exclusively yours. Try this, it will work.
The long term view
Looking at the bigger picture, it is essential that you upskill and learn more skills, because you will get more involved in your work, will be nominated by the management for more challenging and important assignments, which will motivate you and make you more productive.
